Tips to Prevent Falling Behind in Rosacea Care

Don't fall behind in your rosacea care this season. The cooler weather, hectic holidays and stress of the season are all reasons not to fall down when it comes to taking care of your rosacea. Here are some tips for minimizing flare-ups.

  • Bundle up, including covering your face from cold and wind. In a recent survey, cold weather caused flare-ups for 46 percent of rosacea patients and wind caused flare-ups for 57 percent, so weather protection can be critical.
  • Control indoor temperatures. Indoor heat can cause a flare-up for some, and holiday cooking may expose you to hours at a hot stove. Keep your indoor temperatures mild, and ventilate your kitchen when you cook.
  • Take a breather now and then. Stress can be at an all-time high around the holidays and it's the second most common rosacea trigger. You don't have to commit to everything. Pace yourself and incorporate some stress-reducing exercises.
  • Watch your diet. Don't experiment with food at parties, and stay away from your known food triggers. Spicy foods and heated beverages aggravate rosacea for many. If wine, beer or other alcohol turns your face red, try drinks that can be made without alcohol.
  • Maintain your treatment regimen. Don't allow hurried times to get in the way of taking medication prescribed by your doctor. Faithful compliance with medical therapy can help keep flare-ups at bay.
